Who is this eBook for?

Spike’s Spikes is a rhyming picture story book which teaches children about rhyme; possessive apostrophes; nocturnal, diurnal, cathemeral and crepuscular animals; rainbows and reflection & refraction of light; colours and shades outdoors; natural dyes; and the value of nature.

What are the resources for this eBook?

This eBook package includes the eBook, ‘Spike’s Spikes,’ which was written by our co-director Alex Alves & beautifully illustrated by her talented father Michael Carter. The package also includes 7 follow up lessons and their resources. 

One of lessons is a text focus lesson that can be carried out inside or outside. It involves a variety of resources to help your child’s literacy skills surrounding rhyme, retelling and possessive apostrophes, which can be split into further sub-lessons. 

The other six lessons involve fun facts, activities and investigations which can be carried out in your outdoor environment. Activities involve outdoor shades; making natural paint; using natural dyes to colour materials; outdoor science of light reflection and refraction; nocturnal, diurnal, cathemeral & crepuscular species; and creating wildflower meadows. All session guide materials, objectives, curriculum-links and resources are provided. The eBook follow-up sessions can be adapted to suit any primary aged children. Differentiation ideas for different ages and abilities are provided.
